The Special Operations Warrior Foundation supports the military’s Special Operations Forces and their families through: college scholarships for surviving children, Educational & family counseling, and grants. To help them in their mission Dunn invites Special Operations Forces Families to each Monday Home Game through his “All for One and Dunn for All” program. At the ballpark, families participate in once-in-a-lifetime experiences which include tickets, t-shirts, dinner, on-field batting practice, and a private meet and greet with Dunn. He also contributes to the Foundation’s scholarship fund.
The 45-pound eagle sculpture, autographed by 28 members of Team USA, sold for $51,000, according to the Astros’ Gregerson, who will donate the proceeds to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. A 20-percent buyer’s premium increased the price the high bidder paid for the eagle to $62,475. The bidding, held through Goldin Auctions, ended on Saturday night.
“Ecstatic,” Gregerson said on Sunday morning. “It’s something that means a lot to my family and my wife’s family and we couldn’t be happier.”
Goldin Auctions’ web site indicates that seven bids were placed for the eagle. Gregerson said he bid twice, his highest being $40,000. The identity of the winner is kept confidential.
